Metocean Forecast System for the Gulf

The Gulf Water Forecast comprises meteorological forecasts provided by Oceanweather Inc (OWI) and wave, current and water level forecasts provided by DHI. The forecast models are based on PERGOS hindcast models.

The meteorological forecasts use local measurements to adjust the Global Forecast System from NCEP/NOAA weather forecast in order to optimize the forecasts especially for the Gulf.

The forecasts of the wave, currents and water level variations are performed by the MIKE software suite developed by DHI. The spatial resolution varies from 8 km offshore to 1 km in coastal areas.

In the Gulf of Oman the wave forecast model is linked to DHI’s global wave model and the water level and current forecast model is linked to DHI's global tidal model. Hence the forecast reliability is high also in the Strait of Hormuz.

Forecast subscriptions are available on a monthly to annual basis.
